This question comes quite often. Our coating is applied at about 13 – 18 mils thick.
Now don’t worry, I know you probably don’t know what that means. The thickness
is about the thickness of a standard business card. So it is actually VERY thin.
Now you may think that is not thin enough to last. Shouldn’t it be thicker? Actually the
composition of a multilayer epoxy floor is quite complicated. One way to try to explain
it is like leather, the surfaces are very tough and abrasion resistant, while the inside
can be soft and flexible. Adding thickness will only add to the softness of the floor
and so make it easier to damage.
Since we are talking about thickness, you may find some people out there who will
suggest that a coating of that thickness is “too thin”. These people are used to
working with older less resistant coatings. The old standard “epoxies” are OK at
abrasion resistance, most lasting 7 – 10 years in a residential garage. Our 5th
generation epoxy is has much as 10 times the abrasion resistance.
So a coating HALF as thick will still last 35 – 50 years! Rest assured your floor will
